All eleven entries in annual competition to be shown at Carri Bass Photography
TRYON—For a decade now, the Tryon International Film Festival has helped brand its annual event with a unique poster that can be seen around town during the event. The Polk County Film Initiative, which puts on TRIFF, selects the poster in a competition among artists.
All those entries will go on public display this week, and this year’s competition was a little different.
“We used to just stay within the inner circle of Tryon to have artists do a poster,” says Carri Bass, a PCFI board member and owner of Carri Bass Photography. “This year, we decided to spread the wealth a little bit, so we reached out to both upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina and did a call for artists. We got a pretty good response on it.”
Corianna Kalpac of Flat Rock created this year’s winning poster, which Bass says was chosen for its focus on the festival itself, but all eleven entries will be on display at Carri Bass Photography July 26 through August 30. She says all the posters are very good but very different.
“It was seriously hard to pick this winner,” says Bass.
Originals and prints of the posters will be on sale, with half the proceeds going to TRIFF and half to the artists. The exhibit kicks off during Fourth Friday with a band and refreshments, including beer, wine and TRIFF merchandise, will also be available for purchase.
The tenth annual Tryon International Film Festival will take place October 10 through October 13.
