LANDRUM—One of the area’s more original weekend activities in the area is Red Horse Inn’s Alpaca Wine Experience.

Located at 45 Winston Chase Ct., the Red Horse Inn has been named one of the top romantic inns in the country and is well known as a wedding venue, bed and breakfast, and relaxing afternoon retreat.

As part of the venue’s popular Wine Bar event series and available almost every Sunday from 3 to 4 pm, the Alpaca Wine Experience is a rare treat for wine enthusiasts. Priced at $20, tickets can be conveniently purchased through the farm’s website in advance, and last-minute participants can check in with the Inn for any remaining spots on the day of the event.

The arrival experience for the event usually begins earlier in the afternoon, with guests drinking wine and enjoying the mountain view before they head to the “Paca Palace” to meet the stars of the show. The Inn’s Alpacas, Champagne and Waffles, have been beloved members of the Inn’s farm family since 2020. Despite their timid nature, these delightful creatures warmly welcome guests at the fence.

Though they don’t work for free, they must be paid with their favorite treat, alpaca food and attention. All visitors are given a crash course on making friends with the adorable pair by owner Wolters.

“They are like 160-pound cats,” says Wolters. “They love people, attention, and snacks. They don’t enjoy having their hair mussed and respond best to strokes on the neck.”

Spending time with the alpacas is just one of many seasonal events at the Red Horse Inn. It also hosts Wine on the Terrace, where visitors are entertained during the Sunset Music Series. The series takes place on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and has featured performers from as far away as Nashville and Nova Scotia. Upcoming acts include Ellie Rogers & Big Eyes Parker, Sam and Illia, and the Synergy Twins.

The Inn serves over 160 wines to choose from, and event tickets do not include wine and food.

“Everyone needs something fun and interesting to do on the weekends, and we enjoy providing lighthearted fun experiences for everyone,” Wolters says.
