Tryon Arts & Crafts School (TACS) held the first of three 2024 Westside Mixer events on June 14. Over 250 people braved the heat to enjoy a day on the lawn with their community. Highlights included live music by The Casual Zealots, pottery, fiber arts, youth crafts, lawn games, food, and drink.
During the Mixer, 119 clay bowls were made by local potters to go toward Thermal Belt Outreach’s Empty Bowls initiative, which will take place on October 1 at Parker-Binns Vineyard. Doug Dacey and Meghan Bernard tied in the Empty Bowls Pro Potter Throwdown, each “throwing” 28 bowls in 45 minutes.
The remaining Mixers in 2024 will be held on August 9 and October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free, and the events are open to all ages.
Youth Crafts are sponsored by Polk County Community Foundation. New View Realty is TACS’ Annual Sponsor. Additional Westside Mixer event sponsors are Overmountain Vineyards, Nature’s Storehouse, Biltmore Wines, Tarps.com, Chef John Wilson, and Mill Spring Farm Store.
