Polk County Middle’s Science Olympiad team competed against North Carolina’s best and returned home with a pair of medals from the state tournament in Raleigh.
Four Wolverines earned top-10 finishes at the state Science Olympiad, held on the campus of North Carolina State University and matching students from more than 60 middle schools across the Tar Heel state.
Polk’s Ryan Blomeley and Clementine Frantz earned third place in Air Trajectory while Emma Blomeley and Sofia Cordia placed sixth in the Forestry event. All four students received medals for their placement.
Jay M. Robinson Middle School in Charlotte won the team competition, with Piedmont IB Middle School in Charlotte placing second. Both of those teams advanced to the national Science Olympiad competition later this year.
Science Olympiad offers students a chance to compete in more than 20 events, some involving subject tests, some involving building devices, and some involving both.
