Mirrorball to feature national, regional and local artists

 

TRYON—A new art gallery is coming to Tryon, and its owners hope it will bring a colorful twist to the town’s already diverse art community.

Owners Alex Page and E. Vincent Martinez of Atlanta are opening the gallery in a space currently being renovated at 84 Pacolet Street. Page is a marketing and public relations executive and Martinez is an artist and documentary filmmaker. Both say Tryon is a great place for their new gallery.

“It’s a melting pot of people from New York, Miami, and the West Coast,” says Page. They come from different backgrounds, whether it’s C-Suite executives, interior designers, or the Hollywood industry. For us living in major cities in our careers and our lives, we relate to that and we appreciate that there’s a diverse culture.”

Martinez, who will be the gallery curator, acknowledges that there are already very good galleries in Tryon but hopes the new gallery will add a new dimension.

“Our work is diversified in that it’s a different group of artists,” says Martinez. “We are featuring artists from New York, Florida, Atlanta, and western North Carolina, so we have a diverse curation of artists, from glass blowers to potters to painters to mixed-media artists to photographers.”

Martinez says the gallery will also feature the work of local and regional artists. He and Page are leasing the space and the building owner is handling the renovations, tearing out walls and false ceilings to open it up and create a space that Martinez and Page say will be great for exhibiting art and hosting special events. 

The new gallery will be called “Mirrorball.”

“A Mirrorball is a cultural expression of dance and self-expression, usually in a place where people of all backgrounds come together,” says Page.

Page and Martinez hope to open the gallery on May 1.
