Tryon Little Theater’s newest show, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” is opening on March 1 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
This award-winning show has earned Drama Desk Awards and Tony Awards, and in 1981, it claimed the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Written by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall, the musical is based on King’s story inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch – a legendary brothel that operated in Texas from the 1840s to 1973.
TLT’s production is directed by Lori Lee, with musical direction from Pam McNeil.
“Many people know the music and the story from the 1982 movie with Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds,” says Lee. “The movie and the play, as it turns out, are very different. It’s going to be a fun getaway from the winter cold, so leave your worries at the door and enter the racy
world of the ‘Chicken Ranch.’ This show will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even blush a little, but it’s all in good fun!”
The show runs for two weekends: March 1-3 and March 8-10. Tickets are available at www.TLTinfo.org or by calling 828-859-2466 and cost $25 and $12 for those under 18.
There will be an opening night reception on March 1, starting at 6:30 p.m.
