Event in its eighth year encourages creativity and fellowship
SALUDA—The Saluda Community Land Trust (SCLT) will hold a free wreath-making workshop on Saturday, November 25, at Twin Lakes Park.
All the makings for a boxwood wreath will be provided for visitors at this merry activity for children and adults, as it celebrates its eighth consecutive year.
The event began with the SCLT asking the Polk County Community Foundation for a grant of three hundred dollars, which was used to purchase the supplies. Each year, members cut the boxwoods for the wreath-making several days before the event.
“Part of our mission is to get people outside, and the Polk County Community Foundation has been a big supporter of ours for years,” said Carolyn Ashburn, Secretary and founding member of the SCLT.
The workshop will be led by Betsy Burdette and Jennifer Hough, and attendees are encouraged to construct and decorate their wreath however they like.
“Whether it’s greenery or other things besides boxwoods. We encourage people to bring their own ribbon, although there will be some ribbon there,” said Ashburn.
There will be three wreath sizes available; 12-inch, 18-inch and 24-inch.
Visitors are encouraged to bring clippers, if possible, as well as their own ribbon or ornaments. Organizers also advise attendees to bring folding chairs or blankets, and to dress warmly.
The wreath-making workshop will be held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Twin Lakes, located at 255 Linda Lane, 1.7 miles outside of Saluda. The area does have a picnic shelter in case of rain.
