TRYON—Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon will be offering two services of choral evensong in 2023-24.
Evensong is Anglican in origin. It’s actually a sung evening prayer led by a choir. However, it’s ecumenical, and anybody from any Christian denomination or faith tradition is invited to attend.
The first service will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 4 p.m. The theme will be “In Praise of Music.” Works will include a lovely setting of “How Can I Keep From Singing,” along with a rousing anthem, “With Heart and Voice,” by the late great composer Mark Schweizer. Many may remember Mark as a former conductor of the Carolina Community Chorus and as an actor/singer in Tryon Little Theater productions.
The evensong choir is open to any interested singers. For more information, please contact Brennan Szafron, organist/choirmaster at 828-859-9741 or bszafron@holycrosstryon.org.
