A second-half scoring flurry Wednesday propelled Polk County to a 6-0 victory over Madison in a non-conference boys soccer matchup in Asheville.
The Wolverines exploded for five goals in the second half to take the win in a match played at Buncombe County Sports Park. Madison’s home stadium is currently undergoing repairs and the Patriots will have no on-campus matches for the second straight season.
Polk County (3-0-2) held a 1-0 lead at the half before the fireworks in the final 40 minutes, that rally helping drop Madison to 1-3 on the season.
Manny Albarran, Sebastian Azar and Cooper Meyer each scored two goals for the Wolverines, with Albarran adding two assists. Harrison Ashworth also recorded an assist for Polk County, which had 21 shots on goal in the match.
Cade Bright finished with eight saves in recording his third consecutive shutout.
Polk County returns home Tuesday to face North Henderson in the Wolverines’ final match before the start of Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play. Tuesday’s match is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. and will be streamed live on NFHS Network.
