Narratives told through traces we leave behind
TRYON–From discarded farm implements and broken sewing machines to scattered tools and weathered locks, the found objects referenced or incorporated into Upstairs Artspace’s current exhibition, “Time’s Witness,” were resurrected from near disposal.
Arden Cone and Millicent Kennedy, through careful recording, obsessive documentation, and laborious artmaking processes, offer a deep and sometimes dark look into humanity by way of the objects we utilize, attach to, and eventually discard.
The last day for the public to view these traces left behind in “Time’s Witness: Work by Arden Cone and Millicent Kennedy,” will be Friday, June 16. The gallery is open from 12-5 pm, followed by a closing reception and celebration from 6-7 pm. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served.
More details on both artists plus future exhibits and events, can be found online at UpstairsArtspace.org. The contemporary art gallery is at 49 S. Trade St., in Tryon.
