TRYON–If you want to go to funky town and boogie down you’ll have a chance to do so when the disco days return to Tryon this month. The Tryon International Film Festival is holding a disco-themed party to raise money to help cover the festival’s operating costs.
“The team of volunteers who have been supporting TRIFF for almost a decade are a fun bunch,” says Debra Torrence, the director of the Polk County Film Initiative. “Disco music was a perfect pick to kick off the year with a fun-fundraiser.”
The disco fundraiser will be held Friday, March 31 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Upstairs Artspace, located at 49 South Trade Street. Tickets are $75 per person and include two drink tickets for wine and beer and light appetizers. There will be a DJ with music and lights of the era and disco costumes are encouraged.
“We hope people will come out and have a great time while also supporting a great cause for our community,” says Torrence.
TRIFF 2023 will be held Oct.6-8 with screenings of films from all over the country and the world. The festival is in its ninth year and typically draws more than 500 people to town who not only attend film screenings and educational workshops but also spend money at local shops and restaurants and visit area attractions.
TFIFF gets its financial support from donations, ticket sales and sponsorships. It’s a program of the non-profit Polk County Film Initiative which supports independent and major motion picture film production and access to media arts education in the region.
Tickets to TRIFF’s Disco Dance Party may be purchased online at www.tryoninternationalfilmfestival.com or with a check or cash at The Nest and Carri Bass Photography Studio in downtown Tryon.
