Six-run inning lifts East Henderson JV past Polk County

A six-run third inning Friday helped propel East Henderson’s junior varsity to a 7-2 victory over Polk County in the Wolverines’ home opener at The Bottoms.

 

The Eagles improved to 3-1 with the triumph, with Polk County dropping to 0-2.

How it happened: East Henderson took control of the game with its third-inning rally. The Eagles combined four singles with three walks and a hit batter to generate their offense.

 

Polk County got its first hit of the game in the fourth inning on Blaine Turner’s single. The Wolverines then fashioned a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth for their runs.

 

Nick Sotomayer opened the inning with an infield single before stealing second and third. Turner followed with a line-drive double down the left-field line to plate Sotomayer.

 

Turner moved to third on Bryson Hoots’ grounder and scored on Aaron Jackson’s sacrifice fly.

 

At the plate: Turner finished 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace Polk’s offense. Bryson Hoots and Sotomayer had the Wolverines’ other hits.

 

On the mound: Peyton Hoots took the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings, striking out four, walking three and allowing two hits. Sotomayer pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits, with Hunter Geagley tossing an inning and allowing one run.

 

Next up: Polk County will travel Tuesday to Chase for its Mountain Foothills 7 Conference opener.
