How it happened: A defensive battle for much of the first half tilted Polk County’s way in the final 15 minutes as Taylor and Ella Waldman scored goals to give the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage. Cheyenne Sherman answered for the Eagles to make it a 2-1 game at the half.

But Savaia sparked the Wolverines in the second 40 minutes with a pair of goals some nine minutes apart. Hayden Blackwell followed Savaia’s second tally with a goal four minutes later, and Leah Dotson found the next shortly thereafter to give the Wolverines a 6-1 lead.

Taylor added her second goal on a nice sequence in the final 10 minutes, dribbling past a pair of defenders and unleashing a low drive, and Kylie Lewis closed the scoring with a goal with eight seconds remaining.

Next up: Polk County opens Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Patton for a 6 p.m. match. That will be the first of five straight road matches for the Wolverines, with Polk not back at home until March 29.
