Polk County’s girls junior varsity soccer squad opened its season Wednesday with a 2-0 victory at Crest.
Charley Dusenbury and Kylie Lewis each scored goals for the Wolverines.
Polk County is currently slated to next be in action on March 27, traveling to Hendersonville for a 5 p.m. Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match.
In other soccer news, Polk County girls soccer coach Lennox Charles recently returned to the field as a player.
Charles joined Traquinas Old Glory, a New Jersey-based team that included players from several states, in competing in the Florida Classic Adult Tournament in Auburndale, Fla. The tournament annually draws adult teams from around the country to compete.
Traquinas finished pool play with a perfect 3-0 record, allowing just one goal in those matches. The team’s run came to an end in the tournament semifinal with a loss to Kentucky Waterfall on penality kicks.
The teams finished regulation and overtime tied at 2-2, with Kentucky then winning 4-2 on penalties.
