Landrum basketball teams compete in the Battle at the Border tournament

LANDRUM–Landrum Boys and Girls Varsity teams participated in the Battle at the Border Tournament hosted by Landrum High School. The two Cardinal teams followed up with victories against Oakbrook Prep and region foe Liberty.
The Battle at the Border tournament, held at Landrum High School’s gym, featured eight boys and eight girls teams from South Carolina consisting of a winners bracket, gold, and a losers bracket, silver, allowing each team to play three games.
The Lady Cardinals opened the tournament with a 49-58 loss to Carolina Forest out of Myrtle Beach to put them in the Silver Bracket, where they bounced back with a 52-46 win against 5A Boiling Springs. They would clinch a Silver Bracket Championship with a 54-40 victory versus Woodruff.
The Landrum Girls would continue their win streak with a 65-23 blowout of non-region foe Oakbrook Prep (0-13) of Spartanburg. They opened region play with another double-digit win, 35-19, against Liberty (2-12, 0-1) to take their record at present to (10-4, 1-0).
The Landrum Boys opened the tournament with a close 68-64 win versus Chapman to put them in the Gold bracket. They followed it up with an impressive 84-46 triumph against Spartanburg Christian. They would lose in the final to Shannon Forest out of Greenville, 64-59, to finish second in the tournament.
The Cardinals (14-3, 1-0) would rebound from their loss with back-to-back wins against non-region opponent Oakbrook Prep (11-5) 61-39 and their first region game defeating Liberty (1-13, 0-1) 77-50.
The Landrum Varsity teams next take the floor Tuesday, January 10, at home versus Chesnee, with the girl’s game beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the boys after at 7:30 p.m.
