The pregame buildup to Saturday’s Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Game may have a familiar look for Polk County athletic fans.
For the second time in five years, Polk County High School’s cheerleaders have been selected to be part of the pregame activities for the ACC title matchup, which features Clemson and North Carolina meeting at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
PCHS cheer coach Elisa Flynn said she plans to take 24 varsity cheerleaders and eight junior varsity cheerleaders to the game. The Wolverines will be part of a large contingent selected by Universal Cheerleaders Association to be part of the festivities.
“This is UCA sponsored, and UCA sends us the material and we learn it here,” Flynn said. “The girls have been working hard to learn the dance material this week and they look amazing.
“I’m so proud of the work they put into everything they do. Great group to work with. The girls are super excited for the experience of seeing college level cheer up close.”
Polk’s cheerleaders will join pregame participants for practice beginning around 4 p.m. Flynn said the pregame routine involving the Wolverines should begin around 7:30 p.m.
“The girls will be allowed to talk and mingle with the Clemson and UNC cheer teams,” Flynn said. “These girls are dedicated and work incredibly hard at everything they do.
“This is a chance for me to show how much I appreciate them and their work ethic and celebrate our team.”
