Opening night for the first weekend run of Tryon Little Theater’s “Dearly Departed” is this Thursday, November 10, at the TLT Workshop Theater. The comedy, written by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones, presents a colorful and dysfunctional group of Southern eccentrics—the beleaguered Turpin family—and proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious.
Directed by Tena Greene-Porter, the talented cast take you from the sad day of the family patriarch’s sudden demise, through the hilarious planning of the funeral, and all that lies in between. We have a religious fanatic aunt, her ne’er do well son, the brothers who resent but love each other, their wives with their own burdens to bear, the young daughter who wants nothing but food, and the patient matriarch who is determined to let the world know her husband’s true character. Add to the mix a slew of quirky friends, hangers-on, and the wacky reverend, and you have the recipe for laughter.
Playing for two weekends (Nov. 10-13 and 17-20) at the TLT Workshop Theater at 516 S. Trade St. in Tryon, tickets for the show are $20 and $12, and can be purchased through the website at www.tltinfo.org. Curtain times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m. Call 828-859-2466 for more information.
