The NC Foothills Farm Tour is back with a fantastic lineup for Saturday, October 15.The tour is open to everyone and will feature four locations throughout Polk and Rutherford County.
The October farm tour is an intensive educational session where visitors meet and learn from local food growers. Tours will include walk-throughs, Q&A sessions, and the opportunity to see the inner workings of local food-growing operations.
The farms included are the Polk County High School farm, Parker-Binns Winery in Polk County, Cherry Mountain Farm, and Belflower Farm in Rutherford County.
The Polk County High School Farm is worked by the local students, often from the Future Farmers of America and the school’s agriculture courses. Parker-Binns Winery, a family-owned business, sits on 40 acres and is considered one of the top wineries in the state.
Dawn Jordan, the Agricultural Economic Development Director, adds, “The NC Foothills Farm tour helps us better understand what is happening in your community. If you know your farmers, business owners, and even your neighbors next door, you know what resources are available.”
Members of the local farming community look forward to this twice-a-year event as an opportunity to educate the public on what goes into producing the food we eat and gives the community a chance to thank our local food producers and community builders.
