Polk County Schools students and teachers have once again earned recognition as one of the top-performing school districts in North Carolina.

 

For the 2021-22 academic year, Polk County Schools students scored substantially higher than the state average on end-of-year tests, with the district as a whole finishing with 67.5 percent of those tested scoring grade level proficiency. That figure trails only the results from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Union County Schools.

 

Students excelled throughout the district, with notable results including:

 

* District fourth graders achieved grade level proficiency at a rate of 70.6 percent, the second-best result in the state only behind Union County Schools.

 

* Students in sixth grade English and Language Arts scored proficiency at a 67.3 percent rate, trailing only Camden County Schools.

 

* Polk County Schools had the second-best showing on all exams for third grade, fourth grade and eighth grade. The district’s combined ELA score for grades 3-8 was also second-highest in the state.

 

“I want to congratulate our students, staff, families and community on another great year of academic performance,” said Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene. “We worked very hard to meet the needs of our students last year, and I strongly feel our success is directly related to the dedication of our staff, the commitment and resilience of our students, and the support of our families and community.

 

“There are still many areas for us to work to improve, but it is important to take a moment and celebrate our work and student achievement. We always want to be the best in the state, but being among the best is affirming.  I am proud of our students, families, and educators and I thank them for their efforts and support.”

 

The student achievement data for the 2021-22 school year is based on analysis of all end-of-grade (EOG) and end-of-course (EOC) tests, which are aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in English Language Arts (Reading) and Mathematics and the Essential Standards in Science for all public schools in North Carolina.
