Winner of the Lesley Oakes Scholarship is Colby Hardin, a 12th grade student at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. Colby, a classical guitarist, performed Asturias by Isaac Albeniz, which is considered one of the most difficult pieces written for classical guitar. Colby intends to be a music major and will attend Appalachian State University beginning fall 2022. He is a student of Amy Brucksch.
Emma Buckner, also a 12th grade student at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, won the Betty Van Buskirk Scholarship. Emma, a violinist, performed the Allemande from Partita #2 in g minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. This is one of Bach’s most outstanding and demanding works for unaccompanied violin. The Kathleen Erwin Scholarship was awarded to Laura Packer, an 11th grade student at Polk County High School. Laura performed the dazzling, difficult Dill Pickles solo on the marimba.
