Polk walks its way to four-inning win at Hendersonville

Polk County took advantage Friday of a rough day on the mound for Hendersonville pitching to claim a 17-3 victory over the Bearcats in Hendersonville.
The Wolverines batted around in the second and third innings in upping their record to 4-3, 3-1 in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play. The Bearcats dropped to 0-6, 0-4.
Hendersonville pitchers issued 21 walks in the four innings, with 10 Polk batters walking at least once. Wolverine pitcher Kynley Lawter drew four walks in the game.
Lawter earned the win in her first varsity pitching start, allowing four hits, walking two and striking out four.
Sarah Vitale finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored for Polk, with Amberlyn Scruggs going 2-for-2 with three RBI. Ada Kelley added a 1-for-2 effort with three RBI.
Elizabeth Vitale was 1-for-2 with two RBI while Mia Bradley, Katelyn Arrowood, Mya Jackson, Rosie Lafauci and Kayleigh Wilson each had base hits.
The Wolverines return home Tuesday to host Chase in a conference matchup set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
