Contractors setting beams for new bridge for 3 nights
HENDERSON COUNTY—Local drivers traveling to the Hendersonville/Asheville area will have major detours the next 3 nights.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that Interstate 26 East will be closed the next 3 nights. The closure will begin at 8 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. for contractors to set beams for a new bridge over Cane Creek.
The closure will be the section from Airport Road (Exit 40) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44).
Drivers will be directed to Airport Road then to Hendersonville Road before rejoining the interstate at U.S. 25.
NCDOT officials said traffic signals will remain green longer during the closure along the detour route to allow for movement of additional traffic.
