Weaver earns 2A all-state selection as linebacker

Polk County junior Angus Weaver has been named a first-team 2A all-state selection by Friday Nights in Carolina.
Weaver made the squad as a linebacker, joining Salisbury’s Jalon Walker, Shelby’s Malaki Hamrick and Whiteville’s Daejuan Thompson at the position.
Six other Mountain Foothills 7 Conference players were named to the 2A first team, those being Chase offensive lineman Reagan McCranie, Hendersonville defensive lineman CJ Landrum, Chase running back Marquies McCombs, Chase defensive back Taivon Derisma, Hendersonville kicker Cooper King and Brevard punter Joe Powell.
Weaver led Polk County with 120 tackles and 21 tackles for loss. He also recorded seven sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Offensively, Weaver rushed for 1,186 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught four passes for 34 yards and another score.
Weaver played a large portion of the season with a broken bone in his left hand.
