Tryon author and former publisher Les Stobbe will be signing his new book, God Moments in My Publishing Life on Friday, Nov. 26, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Book Shelf in downtown Tryon. A storyteller and promoter of storytelling all his life, Les filled his book with stories from 65 years in the book publishing world.

In a straightforward and exhaustive memoir of a man of the Word and a man of words, Les regales us with countless tales from inside Christian publishing walls.” Jerry B Jenkins, from Foreword

Packed with encouragement, God Moments in My Publishing Life contains the author’s reflections on 65 years of experiencing God Moments. He reveals how they moved him through life’s disappointments into new opportunities as writer, editor, mentor of writers, publisher, and Journalist in Residence at a college. At hundreds of writers’ conferences, he unlocked writers’ by identifying their skills, and challenged them to take risks and seize opportunities. Stepping into pulpits he presented what God had in mind for struggling Christians.

When bullied because of crossed eyes Les became a reader. When a mountain climbing accident sent him onto a hospital bed for four months, a magazine ad introduced him to a Christian writing course. When indecisive about his future after college, a contest brought him his first opportunity as editor/writer of a new Christian weekly. A friend’s recommendation landed him as editor at Moody Press.  Later, when released from his job as vice-president of books and book clubs at Christian Herald, another friend’s recommendation opened the door for him at Here’s Life Publishers and eventually as its president.

When the “dot com bust” eliminated his position as vice-president of Vision New England, Les Stobbe extended his ministry through mentoring writers online via journalism lessons he wrote for Jerry B. Jenkins and the Christian Writers Guild—and onsite at writers’ conferences worldwide. Another friend’s recommendation got him appointed Journalist in Residence at Gordon College.

God Moments opened opportunities for Les Stobbe as an article and curriculum writer, magazine editor, ghostwriter for Christian leaders, and promotional writer. As a literary agent for 25 years, he celebrated the successes of authors he placed with publishers. If you enter Leslie Stobbe in Amway’s search bar, you’ll find a partial list of books he wrote that are still available.
