Polk Senior Center offering free help for enrollment
COLUMBUS—Anyone 65 and older who needs help enrolling in Medicare can seek help through the Polk County Senior Center.
Open enrollment began Oct. 15 and will last until Dec. 7 for Medicare. Counselors are available at the senior center for any resident who may need assistance.
The Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program offers free, unbiased information about Medicare and can assist Polk residents with enrollment and subsidy applications that can save money. SHIIP counselors can help residents who may be new to Medicare, need help comparing Medicare Advantage and Part-D plans, have questions about coverage or assist in finding the best Medicare Prescription Drug plan.
Changes to the insurance plan will be effective Jan. 1, 2022.
To schedule an appointment with a trained SHIIP counselor, people can call 828-894-0001. All appointments will be conducted over the phone at this time.
