Polk adds another 12 cases last week; 11,890 vaccines administered

POLK COUNTY—Polk County added less cases of COVID-19 from the week before but the percent positive was higher. 

The county added 12 new cases last week, according to the Polk County Division of Health, compared to 18 new cases the prior week. The percent positive last week was 7 percent, compared to 2.3 percent on March 19. 

The county has now had a total of 1,419 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020. There are 1,361 patients presumed recovered and 28 people have died, according to the county’s data released on Friday, March 26. 

There have been 64 people hospitalized from the virus in Polk County. 

Polk County has completed 18,697 tests over the last year, with 3 tests still pending as of last Friday. 

The county has switched to focusing on vaccinations, conducting massive vaccinations at the Tryon International Equestrian Center as well as adding dates at the Meeting Place Senior Center in Columbus lately. The county has administered a total of 11,890 vaccines as of last Friday, with 4,195 of those being complete, or second vaccinations. 

Of the county’s total positive cases, the most have been in people age 25-49, followed by people age 50-64; 65-74 and 75 and above; 0-17 years old and 18-24 years old.
