Gibbs retains school board seat

Chair Rick Covil was high vote getter

POLK COUNTY—Danielle Edwards Gibbs retained her seat on the Polk County School Board Tuesday night by 1,357 votes. 

Gibbs was appointed following the death of former chairman Geoffrey Tennnt and beat Robbie Price during Tuesday’s election.

Gibbs received 5,130 votes compared to Price’s 3,773 votes, according to unofficial results Tuesday night by the Polk County Board of Elections. 

Current chairman of the board Rick Covil was the high vote getter with 7,941 votes, representing the Tryon Township. Gibbs represents the Columbus Township. 

Others running unopposed were Sara Bell for the Saluda Township, who received 7,655 votes, and Lucinda Allen, representing the White Oak Township, with 7,462 votes. 

Other winners in Polk County included Register of Deeds Sheila Whitmire, who was running unopposed, who received 9,006 votes and Sandra Reid, running for the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor unopposed, who received 7,980 votes.
