The deadline for the dental assisting program at Isothermal Community College has been extended until Monday, July 6, officials said today.

The extension will allow those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic a little extra time to get enrolled.

The dental assisting program takes place at the Polk Center in Columbus and at the MAHEC Dental facility on the nearby St. Luke’s Hospital campus. Dental assisting is a great career choice that pays well and has great stability and demand.

Registration for curriculum classes at the college reopens on Thursday, June 29. However, new students are urged to contact the Admissions Office now to make sure application files are complete. Contact Admissions at 828-395-4193 or admissions@isothermal.edu.

In addition, the Fall 2020 admissions criteria for the practical nursing and dental assisting programs were revised in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new system will not be based on testing, due to the difficulty of proper distancing and scheduling. Instead, applicants will be evaluated on a points-based system, said Ava Yamouti, Isothermal’s dean of Health and Public Services.

Interested potential students should contact Tina Porter at tporter@isothermal.edu or 828-395-1621.
