Landrum postpones opening of annual market

LANDRUM—The annual farmers market in Landrum, scheduled to open on May 1 this year has been postponed.

Landrum City Council met Tuesday during a virtual meeting that was done via Facebook Live and postponed the opening.

City administrator Rich Caplan said the city could call a special meeting the first of May if conditions for the COVID-19 pandemic improve before then.

If not, council will revisit when the market can open during its May meeting, which is the second Tuesday in May.

Caplan said it is possible the opening could occur before the next meeting, and if things do improve the city could have an emergency meeting.

All council members and some city officials were present for Tuesday’s meeting, but the meeting was closed to the public due to the governor’s orders of not allowing gatherings of more than 10 people. Council members, the mayor and city administrator provided social distancing during the meeting and sat in different places in council chambers at city hall.

The city allowed for residents to call in for any public comments during the live feed, but no residents called into the meeting.
