Truck spilled diesel and oil in Sunny View Wednesday
SUNNY VIEW—A logging truck overturned on Green River Hill in the Sunny View community Wednesday afternoon and caused part of Highway 9 to be closed for several hours.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured but did go to the hospital to be checked out, according to the Polk County Emergency Management Director Bobby Arledge.
The accident happened after 2 p.m. Wednesday and crews did not leave the scene until around 7:30 p.m.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation was called in for assistance and placed sand on the road.
Arledge said there are still some logs near the scene that spilled. There was between 25-50 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled as well as oil on both sides of Highway 9. The guardrail at the location was also damaged.
Arledge said the road is now open but people should be careful on Green River Hill, especially with rain on Thursday. The NCDOT is checking on the road to ensure it is safe for travel and there are no issues.
Sunny View Fire Department, Mill Spring Fire Department, the Polk County EMS, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Emergency Management and the NCDOT responded to the incident.
The cause of the incident was not known as of press time.
