Letter to the editor:
I did not say that our elected officials were responsible for the teacher cuts, but simply recommended that tax dollars could be rerouted to cover some of the teacher losses rather than support a dam.
Do you think any business in North Carolina would buy an asset with an open ended obligation to make repairs that are scheduled now for $2.75 million and who knows how much they will be in the future. They would also not go along with the monetary loss without a business plan to show a rate of return on their investment at some time in the future. That seems to be our current situation.
Who do you think would defend and support a business deal with monetary losses of unknown amounts? Could it only be an elected official with taxing authority?
