Fire departments, rescue extricate patient

Wreck Monday afternoon shuts down Interstate 26
SALUDA—A crash Monday afternoon shut down both directions of Interstate 26 while emergency crews had to cut the top off the car to extricate a victim.
The wreck occurred near mile marker 64 on Interstate 26 westbound around 4 p.m.
Columbus and Saluda Fire departments performed a roof flap to extricate a patient with the assistance of the Polk County Rescue Squad.
The Columbus Fire Department said the patient was safely extricated and transported to the hospital. There were no updates as of Tuesday on the patient’s condition.
Columbus fire officials said the interstate was completely shut down while the extrication was in progress to keep the scene safe.
The road was blocked for over an hour.
The interstate reopened around 5:15 p.m.
