Tryon Little Theater’s “Mamma Mia” is in rehearsals, and the energy is palpable, theater representatives said.

Opening Feb. 14 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center and running through Feb. 17, there are three evening performances and two matinees.

Seen by over 80 million people worldwide, this show is written by Catherine Johnson and based on the songs of ABBA, written primarily by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The musical’s title comes from the Swiss pop group’s 1975 chart-topper, “Mamma Mia.”

Although the show is full of strong female characters and emphasizes the importance of those friendships, there are also some pretty interesting male characters too three men who have been invited to a wedding, only to find out that one of them just might be the father of the bride-to-be, theatre representatives said. Playing the dads are Guy Winker (Sam), Chris Tinkler (Harry) and Jordan Wright (Bill).

Tickets are available online at tltinfo.org or by calling 828-859-2466. Evening shows start at 7:30 p.m., with a Saturday matinee at 2:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.
