Wolverines upset top-ranked Brevard in five-set volleyball thriller

Polk County’s eighth straight win may have been its best of the season.
The Wolverines traveled to Brevard and knocked off the state’s top-ranked 2A squad, ending the Blue Devils’ 18-match winning streak with a 3-2 victory.
Polk County earned a 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11 triumph, upping its record to 11-7. Brevard, atop the latest MaxPreps rankings for state 2A squads, dropped to 18-2.
Grace Lauer had 15 kills and eight blocks for Polk County, with Mireya Roman adding 12 kills, eight digs and eight blocks, and Meadow Becker finishing with eight kills and eight blocks.
Ansley Lynch had 25 digs, with Carolina Castillo adding 19 digs and Landry Edwards recording 15 digs. Kristen Hall had 16 digs and five kills, and Sydney Waldman finished with 52 assists and 17 digs.
Polk County returned home Thursday and also returned to conference play, hosting Mitchell in a Western Highlands Conference clash.
