Each year, the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association administers an award to be presented to a North Carolinian for the best example of juvenile literature published the previous year.
The American Association of University of North Carolina recognizes the recipient each year at its annual meeting, and gives one copy of its book to each local branch to donate to its library.
In March 2018, Judith Irving, president-elect of the Tryon Branch of AAUW, received the award-winning books for 2016 and 2017.
“The Odds of Getting Even” by Shelia Turnage was given the 2016 North Carolina Juvenile Literature Award. “The Ethan I Was Before by Ali Standish” was awarded AAUW North Carolina Award for Young People’s Literature.
Rishara Finsel, Polk County Public Library director, accepted the books for the library. AAUW is grateful to the library for providing a meeting room for its book club meetings and occasional general meetings, members said.
