Polk County senior to join UNC Charlotte football program

Polk County senior Dillon Overholt has decided to accept a preferred walk-on spot with the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s football program.
Overholt will join a 49ers program that competes at the Division I level in Conference USA. The 49ers finished 1-11 last season under head coach Brad Lambert.
Overholt had scholarship offers from Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill and Wingate, as well as a preferred walk-on offer from Western Carolina.

An All-Western North Carolina selection as a defensive back, Overholt recorded 88 tackles this season, and intercepted two passes.
He started nine games at quarterback for Polk County before shifting to wide receiver. He finished as Polk County’s second-leading rusher with 805 yards and seven touchdowns, passed for 629 yards and 11 touchdowns, caught 13 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns, and also had a punt return for a score.
