Cardinal women fall out of state b-ball tourney

When a team is in the South Carolina basketball tournament, it must win every game, or, at some point, go home.
Once the Landrum Cardinals’ Sarah Price fouled out of Friday’s — varsity women’s second-round AA game against (and at) Keenan, that point had arrived like bad news in the night for the Cardinals, who went down 64-62 in overtime. When Price left the court, the Cardinals held an 18-point lead, with some five minutes remaining in the game.
With Price gone, Keenan was able to force enough turnovers to tie the contest with just three seconds remaining. Landrum inbounded the ball, a pass going to Lindsey Hardin, who took one step, and uncharacteristically missed a layup attempt.
Teammate Ellen Boatwright’s similar attempt also came up empty — not her usual result, either.
Landrum head coach Deon Brice, who had guided the Cardinals to a successful season, emphasized that his team “had chances. It just was not meant to be. Great season anyway, finished 20-5.”
In the first three quarters of the game, the Cardinals had dominated the Raiders, 12-8, 17-12, and 18-10.
