Cardinal men are region champs

Host opening round of state playoffs
Landrum’s Cardinals have captured the Region 1-2A men’s varsity basketball title, after stopping Greer Middle College High School, 71-42, on Tuesday (February 6, at Landrum), and are set to host the winner of Thursday’s (February 8) Brashier/Liberty game next Wednesday (February 14) in the opening round of state playoffs.
In the Cardinal win over GMCHS, Landrum’s Trey Smith scored 32 points (including four three-pointers), to bring his school-best varsity total to 1,948. By season’s end, expect Smith to eclipse 2,000.
The win raised the Cardinal’s overall record to 19-4, and their region mark to 8-1.
Cardinal teammate Foster Bridges notched 14 points, with one three-pointer. Bridges was five-for-five at the line, and grabbed eight rebounds. Smith led with five steals, while teammate Turner Ussery grabbed six rebounds (the Cardinal’s Easton Jenkins grabbed five rebounds), and dished out seven assists.
The Cardinals play Blacksburg, at Blacksburg, this Thursday (February 8).
