At 9-1 on the season, Landrum’s women’s basketball team has overcome nearly everyone. On Monday, Dec. 18, the Cardinals overcame yet another adversary — a competent and aggressive Blue Ridge team that courageously entered Landrum’s gym, but left with a 60-51 loss to the Cards.
Lindsey Hardin led Landrum’s way with 20 points, including three three-pointers. The first of those threes put Landrum up, 11-8, in the first quarter. Sarah Price added 16 points and a pair of threes for the winners, with teammate Ellen Boatwright scoring 11.
“We played good defense,” Landrum head coach Deon Brice remarked. “They (Blue Ridge) have three guards that can shoot and are fast. We were able to make some runs through the game that helped us stay ahead, and not feel the pressure of trying to fight from behind. It also helps hitting seven threes.”
In a particularly frenzied period in the third quarter, the teams traded three-pointers, with Landrum making two consecutive threes, to pull ahead, 36-30. Landrum went ahead, 43-36, on another of Hardin’s threes.
After closing the first quarter with a 12-11 advantage, Landrum never trailed.
Brice added, “We’re still growing as a team, trying to work out some small stuff, but really pleased on how hard the girls have been working to get better.”
After the post-Christmas Battle at the Border tournament, the Cardinals’ regular season resumes on January 9, when region rival Chesnee visits the Cardinals’ gym.
