Cardinals gunning for a win at region rival Blacksburg

Landrum’s Cardinals travel to Blacksburg this evening, for their last regular-season varsity football contest.
The Cardinals (1-8 overall, and 0-3 in the region) have nothing to lose by going full tilt against the Wildcats, who, at 4-5 overall, are certainly beatable, though they are 3-0 in the same region as the Cards.
“Our practices have been going really well,” observed Cardinal head coach Jason Farmer. Cardinal practices have focused partly on avoiding the kind of mistakes that translate into points for the opposition. That focus has largely paid off.
He did note that the Wildcats are region champs, as they were last year.
Farmer noted that the Wildcats have an excellent all-around quarterback in Elijah Rodgers (#1), as well as a fine defensive lineman and middle linebacker in the imposing (6 foot 1 inch, 236-pound) Kwame Sutton (#9).
“We’re going to take our best shot at them,” Farmer promised.
Opening kickoff is slated for 7:30.
