Lose close one to Whitmire, come back to defeat Chapman
LANDRUM – Landrum wrestlers hosted Whitmire and Chapman in a tri-meet Tuesday, Jan. 24. In the first meet, Landrum held a thin lead, but lost 39-35 to Whitmire. However, the Cardinals came back from an 18-0 deficit (on forfeits) to defeat Chapman, 44-30.
“Not bad, giving up 18 points, and winning by 14,” commented Cardinal head coach Josh Fowler.
Here, Landrum’s successful 195-pounder, controls his Whitmire opponent. Jon Zimmerman went on to record a 10-1 major decision, giving Landrum four points. Against his Chapman foe, Zimmerman scored a pin, giving the Cardinals a 38-30 lead, before Zimmerman scored a pin at 220, to seal the meet at 44-30, Cards.
That tri-meet was the Cardinals’ last home appearance of the season. This Friday, Jan. 27, they meet in Chesnee for the region tournament. Action is set to begin at 5 p.m.
