Without question we live in a beautiful area; however, I believe it’s the people that make it extraordinary. I share with you here just one small example of what makes our area a great place, and know without question that the needed volunteers will step up to the plate and carry on the tradition of Ross Fox and the Shepherd’s Feast. A special thank you to Carlann and Dave Sherping for being the first to step up and carry on the tradition.

Carlann Sherping writes:

“The passing of Ross Fox was certainly a shock for many in the community. For those of us who knew Ross, we knew a generous man who wanted to make a difference in the world. He gave his time to area charities, equestrian and trout organizations, and he loved riding his bike. He is probably best remembered in Polk County for founding and directing the Shepherd’s Feast, a free Christmas Day community dinner.

Years ago, Ross had helped in Hendersonville at their Christmas community dinner, and he discovered many of those who volunteered and attended were there because they had no family with which to spend Christmas. Ross thought, “Why can’t we do this in Polk County?” So he set about to make it happen. Last Christmas, the Shepherd’s Feast served over 250 people.

This event is something special and with your help it will continue. Dave and Carlann Scherping are coordinating the Shepherd’s Feast this year as a tribute to Ross. Many have volunteered year after year and know exactly what needs to be done on the prep day and on Christmas Day. They are asking for anyone who has volunteered in the past to contact them. Ross did a mountain of work prior to this event and it will take many of us working together to be ready in December. Email or call Carlann and Dave at cscherping@gmail.com or 828-894-3253.”
