Polk lacks concern for menacing, noxious invader

To the editor:
It is with regret, nay alarm, that I write to advise you of my deepest concerns regarding the prolific spread of kudzu within Polk County. Having witnessed the devastation that this destructive weed causes during international travels, I am appalled at the apparent lethargy and lack of concern that the present leadership of Polk County exhibits towards this menace.
For example, Highway 176 between Tryon and Saluda is smothered on both sides of the road. At the present rate of expansion, it is only a matter of time before the entire county is blanketed by this noxious invader, which will undoubtedly effect the values of property, tourism and thus the entire economy of Polk County.
During my visits from the UK, I have noticed an inexorable increase and expansion of this dangerous destructive weed over the last few years.
I do hope that Polk County deals with this menace with all due dispatch.
Your humble servant.
