A pair of South Carolina runners took top honors Saturday at the Coon Dog Day 5K Race/Fun Walk in Saluda.
Gaffney’s Jared Keller finished first overall with a time of 17:29 while Hilton Head’s Elle Ellender, the 2014 champion, completed the course in 18:30 to finish as the top female.
Local runners, though, dominated the top finishers. Recent Polk County High graduate Mitchell Brown placed second overall with a time of 18:04 while Columbus’ Jennifer Fisher placed fourth overall, and the second female, with a time of 19:27.
Mill Spring’s Caleb Potter placed fifth, Tryon’s Bailey Nager took sixth and Saluda’s Phil Feisal finished eighth to round out local finishers in the top 10.
More than 160 runners competed in the race, which served to open the 53rd annual Coon Dog Day celebration in Saluda. The full list of runners and their times is online at PolkSports.com.
