One-run softball loss to Madison is too familiar to Polk

Polk softball season over on 5-4 loss

Yogi Berra might have said it was déjà vu all over again.

Friday’s 5-4 loss to Madison at Marshall, in round two of the state softball playoffs, might have felt that way to Polk County’s varsity Wolverines, who had suffered a pair of one-run losses to Madison in the regular season.

Polk ended the season at 14-9 overall, while Madison (22-1) meets West Wilkes (23-3) at a neutral site this (Tuesday) evening, in round three.

“(The) season went well,” Polk coach Billy Alm remarked. “We fought hard till the very end. It was a very sad day, knowing that Hayley Kropp played her last game in a Polk uniform.”
