Few of Polk County’s varsity baseball games this season have been close, and the season closer, against Mitchell, was no exception, with the Mountaineers leaving Columbus with a 13-3 win.
Polk never led, as Mitchell scored five in the visitors’ first. The guests added four in the seventh, while scoring twice in each of two other frames.
Polk managed two runs in the second, and one in the third. Mitchell out hit the hosts, 14-5. Seven walks by Wolverine pitchers helped Mitchell.
The loss dropped Polk to 6-17 overall, and 2-10 in conference play, in what was probably the final game of the season.
