Tryon’s equestrian tradition on full display at Steeplechase

The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club and the National Steeplechase Association could not have ordered up a more perfect day for the 70th running of the Block House Steeplechase, held at FENCE Saturday. Creative and whimsical hats were in abundance, the Go To Hell Pants competition engendered much good-natured competition, and Tryon’s equestrian tradition was front and center, from the tailgate spreads to the Mint Julep tent to the pre-race show horse demonstrations. Pictured are the “Tryon Trifecta” of hats, representing the Bloody Mary, left, Whiskey Sour, center, and Mint Julep, right. Stormy Alex, Aquies, Elusive Evening and Powerofone took the blue ribbons in their respective races. More photos can be seen on the Bulletin’s Facebook page. (Photos by Claire Sachse)
