It was not a good night for Polk County’s men’s varsity, as Hendersonville topped the visiting Wolverines, 63-37, in Western Highland Conference basketball.
The good news is that the Wolverines will compete in the upcoming WHC tournament, which begins Monday, Feb. 15, after being postponed from today.
Polk fell to 5-17 overall, and 3-9 in conference action, while the Bearcats raised their season marks to 8-14 and 4-8, respectively. The two teams might meet again.
“We had a cold-shooting night, and didn’t play with a lot of energy,” reported Polk Head Coach Josh McEntire.
The tournament’s opening round will be hosted by the higher seed school. Semi-finals and finals will be at Avery County High School. Avery’s men are undefeated in the WHC.
