Stephanie Uhrich’s fourth grade class at Saluda Elementary School has been closely examining famous works of art to study main idea and details. These fourth graders have been using well-known pieces of art to learn how to close-read a reproduction. They have been finding details and main ideas using the reproductions. After working with the reproduction, students then used the same strategies to close read a text. These well-known pieces of art and materials were provided through a B.I.G. grant from Tryon Fine Arts Center.
