Community volunteers and Ashley Meadows residents in Columbus participated in the county’s first workday to create a community micro farm for Ashley Meadows residents on Saturday, May 30. Volunteers planted fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, built raised beds, prepared a field for staple crops, installed an irrigation system and built a tool shed. The “Grow Food Where People Live Project” is through a Groundswell International grant, administered through the Polk County Agricultural Economic Development Office. (Photo by Brandon Shanesy)
